there & back
This project addresses the notion of the fictional nature of photography and the idea of the re-presentation of the real. The final series of photographs is a depiction of my visual and emotional responses to a journey on the A470 from South Wales to North Wales and back again. It is a fiction. The photographs I took on the journey could have been re-presented in any number of ways to construct a different “journey”. Each re-presentation would be based on the reality of the journey and consequently would be equally valid. The work is also heavily influenced by chance; shooting from the car meant that there were many missed shots, the weather clearly influenced the outcome, and chance events contributed to particular compositions. As a result there are many, never to be repeated, moments captured in this series that, whilst real, may not be representative of the reality of the places photographed.
