My intention in this work was to create a series of photographs that conveys a sense of what the key towns and villages of the Rhondda Fach valley were like in 2011. The photographs are intended to represent an objective record of the landscape throughout Rhondda Fach during 2011. Many of the buildings portrayed in these photographs testify to the historic prosperity of the valley, but sadly many now lie abandoned and derelict, a stark reminder of the transience of the valley’s economic success. Despite some re-development being evident within a few of the areas captured in these photographs, the overall economic outlook for the valley and its communities remains desperately uncertain.
Images from this series were subsequently published in "Torchbearers", a Valley Kids Publication documenting the Mzansi Cymru project (2012).
